Torre del Moro

Torre del Moro, situated on Cabo Cervera, is one of the most significant remnants of the defensive system that protected the Mediterranean coast from the Late Middle Ages onwards. Its origins date back to the 14th-16th centuries, when it formed part of the network of watchtowers in the Kingdom of Valencia, designed to warn of possible pirate raids using smoke and fire signals.

With a circular floor plan and a diameter of approximately nine metres, the tower was designed for the surveillance and defence of the coastline. Over the centuries it has undergone various alterations, having been restored in the 20th century and declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1985, which guarantees its protection as a heritage site.

Today, set within a large 23,000 m² park and viewpoint, the Torre del Moro offers some of themost sweeping views of the Torrevieja coastline. From this vantage point, you can gaze out over the coast towards La Mata and Guardamar, the island of Tabarca on clear days, or, to the south, the Mar Menor and Isla Grosa. A place that combines history, scenery and a stroll in the open air at one of the highest points in the municipality.
